Meet Gü Dopran Wheale, LP's First Bride
28th October 2023
Earlier this year in May, Laura was honoured to work with and dress the lovely Gü for her Wedding to her wife Jessica in London. It has been an absolute pleasure for LP to get to know the lovely couple and to see one of our suits worn for such a special and precious event. Gü wore our Ivory Linen Suit matched perfectly with the Silk Tie Neck Shirt. To toast the event we wanted to take the opportunity to interview Gü to share her story, journey and experience with Laura Pitharas.
Tell us a little bit about yourself as an introduction?
My name is Gü Dopran Wheale and I am the Founder of Curated Abilities, a company committed to supporting Deaf & Disabled individuals, nurturing their ideas and aspirations and mentoring them through the employment process. I got married in May 2023 and I came across Laura P whilst looking for the perfect wedding outfit.
Why do you love LP designs and clothes?
I was drawn to LPs designs as I was looking for a female designer who made clothes for women that would normally only be reserved for men. She creates a feeling of empowerment by having a cool androgynous style whilst fully complimenting the female form.
What connected you to the LP brand?
Once I met Laura P, I was delighted to find out that she took her inspiration from Cyprus, where my family originate, and that she used traditional methods and a Turkish tailor, just as my grandmother (Nene) was. I really value that Laura P is meticulous and conscientious in her choice of material and it’s production, you can feel it in the design and the finished product.
What made you instinctively know you wanted to wear LP for your wedding day?
My wife and I wanted to celebrate the expertise and success of women in our wedding day. Laura P encapsulates what it is to be a woman making strides in what was a dominantly male industry, designing shirts and suits but for women - and that really felt important to me. My wife found Gormley & Gamble, a female tailor on Saville Row, but for me I wanted something more individual, with an edge that matched my outlook and personality. When I found Laura P I finally found someone who ‘got’ what I wanted and understood how I wanted to look and feel on the biggest day of my life.
Whats your favourite LP Piece you own that you would recommend to other LP women?
I bought the cream silk tie neck shirt and the ivory linen suit for my wedding and apart from saying yes to my wife, it was the best decision I made that day! Walking around London having our photos done I felt so special in my outfit and people were even stopping to take photos of us, it made me look and feel like a movie star.
I can’t recommend Laura P enough, not only is she a talented designer making waves in women’s fashion, she is a wonderfully warm and kind person who is a pleasure to spend time with.
Thank you for helping make my wedding day just how I envisaged and making me feel so confident. x
